Experience the thrill you can only get in Kona

Manta Ray Night Snorkel Kona

Manta Ray Night Snorkel

Swim with Manta Rays in Hawaii, join Wahine Charters on a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience the graceful nighttime ballet of Kona’s giant Manta Rays during our Manta Ray night snorkel adventure. Kona is the only location on the planet where you can get in the water at night and have over a 90% chance of encountering these gentle giants. The Manta Ray Night Snorkel will be one of your Hawaii experiences you will be talking about for years to come. We provide wet suits, snorkel gear, fresh island fruit, bottled water, Hawaiian juices, soda, and hot cocoa.

We start our evening departing from Honokohau harbor on our comfortable U.S. Coast Guard certified vessel. The “Wicked Wahine” is a custom built 29 foot power boat. She has comfortable padded seating for 16, but we don’t take more than 14 guest. You won’t be fighting for space like on some other “cattle” boats. There is a toilet and protected cabin for those days when the ocean is less than co-operative. If the sea does get too rough, we would rather re-schedule than make our guest endure an uncomfortable trip. We are family owned and operated, and our guest’s experience is our number one goal.

“The Kona manta rays were amazing at night and they swim right underneath you.”

Night Manta Snorkel

Upon arrival at the Manta Ray snorkeling site our captain (who has a Bachelor’s degree in Fisheries and Marine Science) will give a brief talk about the Manta Rays and what to expect. You’ll get to watch the sun set over the Pacific Ocean and maybe even see the elusive “green flash”. We will enter Kona’s warm, clear, illuminated water with our experienced guide who will escort you as you hold on to our custom “Light Board”. The lights on our board attract the plankton that the Manta Rays feed on. Float on the surface and watch the seemingly choreographed performance of our Manta Rays with wingspans over 13 feet!

You will likely see schools of fish, SCUBA divers on manta ray dive trips and lots of other snorkelers. We sometimes call this the “Las Vegas” of night dives because of all the lights and people. If you want to avoid the crowds, check out our “Moonlit Manta Snorkel” where you may have the Manta Rays all to yourselves.
